Pay

This position is a Non-Exempt position at pay grade 108.

Attendance

Non-rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 6:00 pm; must be available to work additional hours as needed.

Overview

The Utility Technician III is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the water distribution system and wastewater collection system. They must remain in compliance with TCEQ and other applicable laws and regulations while working within the scope of their positions.

Responsibilities
• Plan crews daily assignments
• Perform, lead, and train crews to install, repair, and maintain water distribution and wastewater collections systems
• Operate backhoe and large excavation equipment
• Train employees for CDL and proper equipment operation
• Ensure proper dosing and disinfection of water mains and repair material
• Review, interpret, and train crew members on maps, plans, and drawings
• Create permits for street cuts and confined space entry and ensure traffic control plans, trench safety, and worksite safety practices are followed
• Coordinate installation of well point and bypass pumps
• Create work orders and log time, material, equipment, and work performed in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
• Provide customer service while performing responsibilities
• Coordinate activities on the job site with engineers, construction inspectors, other City departments, and external customers
• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
• Requires a High School Diploma/GED
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience
• A TCEQ Class C Water License or Class I Wastewater Collection License is required at time of hire
• A valid Class A CDL license is required at time of hire; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating

Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
