Job Description

The Major Gifts Officer at the School of Dentistry orchestrates and executes a comprehensive fundraising program, focusing on promoting new individual prospects. The role includes managing special events, collaborating with deans and faculty, and coordinating with fund development and alumni relations staff to identify stewardship opportunities for major donors. This exempt position allows for independent decision-making within the scope of responsibilities.

For the Major GIfts Officer Senior Level:

  • Bachelor's degree with 5+ years or more  of significant major gift fundraising experience 
  • History of closing six and seven-figure gifts, including the ability to evaluate, qualify, and move prospects through the cultivation/solicitation cycle. 
  • Five 5 to seven 7 year's higher education fundraising experience is strongly preferred.
  • Sound knowledge of laws, practices and philosophy of charitable giving.
  • Exercise discretion and an ability to interact with high-level donors and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated track record of financial development in a complex work environment is required.
  • Excellent oral, written communication and strong interpersonal skills with an entrepreneurial mindset is required.
  • Demonstrated experience at the advanced level in the use of Microsoft Office Products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook). 
  • Team and project driven
  • Ability to travel and to work some nights and weekends.

For the Intermediate level:

  • Bachelor's degree with 3-5 years of significant fundraising experience in a university or non-profit setting.
  • Proven experience working with five-figure gifts or higher, including the ability to identify and move prospects through the cultivation/solicitation cycle.
  • Ability to travel and to work some nights and weekends.
  • Knowledge of and/or some experience with all phases of a university fundraising/alumni relations program, including major gifts, alumni fundraising, boards, and communications.
  • Strong communication skills both written and oral 
  • Experience working with a diverse constituency and a high level of sophistication and maturity in social and professional settings.
  • A general level of comfort when dealing with high net worth individuals, and an ability to maintain discretion, and high level of confidentiality, when dealing with significant benefactors.
  • Excellent computing skills for retrieving, organizing and researching appropriate donor/prospect information as well as data gathering and manipulation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in a team environment.

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

Salary range for the MGO Senior Level is 90-105k  Salary range for the MGO Intemediate Level is 75-90k.

Work Schedule Additional Information : May require working during non-business hours and on  weekends. Ability to travel is a requirement of the position
