Position Summary: *This position is a 9 months per year, 40 hours/week position; benefits package included. *
The primary location of this position is the main Cullowhee, NC campus. The 9 month appointment period is in alignment with WCU's academic year (mid-August - mid-May).
Cat Tran is the primary public transportation service for the university, offering reliable and safe shuttle services to students, staff, faculty, and visitors.
As Transportation Operations Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring efficient and customer-friendly shuttle operations. You will assist in managing driver schedules, updating routes, approving time sheets, and maintaining essential statistics. This position requires excellent knowledge of vehicle laws, campus geography, and strong communication and supervisory skills. A valid NC CDL License with a Passenger Endorsement is a required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Cat Tran supervisor in daily operations.
- Schedule drivers and update bus routes.
- Approve time sheets in the supervisor's absence.
- Operate Cat Tran vehicles and assist drivers.
- Maintain GPS and passenger counting systems.
- Ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections and manage maintenance schedules.
- Provide training to new and experienced drivers.
- Assist in tracking financial expenditures and completing reports.
- Maintain professional communication through phone, radio, and email.
Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for this position: Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
