Limited Term 12 Months; may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent. 

Under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Academic Instruction and indirect supervision of the Supervisor of Correctional Education Programs (SCEP), Incumbents helps persons committed to State correctional facilities prepare to become productive and contributing members of society by training them in physical education subjects and by helping them to develop socially acceptable attitudes and interests. The teachers have responsibility for supervising the conduct of the students while in the classroom and may be called upon to assume general custody responsibilities in time of emergency. Required to maintain a valid teaching credential recognized by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

Working Conditions

The California State Prison – Los Angeles County (LAC) is located in Lancaster, CA (Antelope Valley) – home to our State’s Poppy Flower.  LAC is approximately forty-five (45) minutes North of Valencia, Ca, which is home to Six Flags Magic Mountain and is approximately seventy-five (75) miles North from Downtown Los Angeles/ Hollywood.

Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If it is determined an applicant does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position. Candidates who have been withheld may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board.

Candidates new to CDCR are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.

STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS

A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is REQUIRED and will be considered in the application screening process.  Applications received without an SOQ will not be considered.  Resumes, letters and other materials will not be considered as an SOQ.

Your SOQ should answer each question clearly and concisely which may include information regarding experience, education, and training relevant to the duties of the position that demonstrates your competitiveness for this position.

All questions need to be answered completely.  Failure to submit a completed SOQ as directed will result in the disqualification of the application process for this posting.  The SOQ must be no longer than two (2) pages in length, with no smaller than 10 pitch font and in question-and-answer format.  Please provide answers to the following questions to the best of your ability.

  Possession of:

  • A Single Subject Credential or a Multiple Subject Credential.  or
  • A Standard Secondary Credential with a major or minor in an academic subject area.  or
  • A General Secondary Credential, with a major / minor in the appropriate subject area.
