Limited Term 12 Months; may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent. 


Under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Academic Instruction and indirect supervision of the Supervisor of Correctional Education Programs (SCEP), Incumbents helps persons committed to State correctional facilities prepare to become productive and contributing members of society by training them in physical education subjects and by helping them to develop socially acceptable attitudes and interests. The teachers have responsibility for supervising the conduct of the students while in the classroom and may be called upon to assume general custody responsibilities in time of emergency. Required to maintain a valid teaching credential recognized by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

Working Conditions

The California State Prison – Los Angeles County (LAC) is located in Lancaster, CA (Antelope Valley) – home to our State’s Poppy Flower.  LAC is approximately forty-five (45) minutes North of Valencia, Ca, which is home to Six Flags Magic Mountain and is approximately seventy-five (75) miles North from Downtown Los Angeles/ Hollywood.

Candidates new to CDCR are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.

    • A Single Subject Credential or a Multiple Subject Credential.  or
    • A Standard Secondary Credential with a major or minor in an academic subject area.  or
    • A General Secondary Credential, with a major / minor in the appropriate subject area.
