The Air and Site Assessment and Climate Indicator Branch (ASACIB) is one of four technical branches in the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA). ASACIB’s responsibilities include an innovative research to address the emerging problem of climate change and identifying indicators of climate change in California; preparing and reviewing documents to determine the effects of toxic air contaminants and the effects posed from facility hot spots; a hazardous waste site risk assessment program; and assisting state and local agencies in the review of hazards posed by contaminated residential and commercial lands as well as look at ecological risks. These activities are carried out by two separate distinct sections: the Air Toxicology and Risk Assessment Section (ATRAS) and the Climate Indicators and Site Assessment Section (CISAS). The two Section Chiefs are a Senior Toxicologist and an Environmental Program Manager I. The Sections’ staff is primarily doctorate and master level scientists in the biological sciences with emphasis in human health and the environment.
Under general direction of the Deputy Director for the Division of Scientific Programs, the Supervising Toxicologist (Managerial) has full management and supervisory responsibilities for implementation of the most complex and sensitive multifaceted public and environmental health programs through multilevel subordinate supervisors and a large, multi-disciplinary technical/professional staff. Programs include air pollution health assessment, hazardous waste cleanup, and climate change indicators and impacts.
