The successful candidate reports to the Amentum Project Manager and will support all health and safety aspects of waste handling and destruction at a PEM gasification facility. The work includes system up fits, construction, and long-term operation and maintenance (O&M). Typical responsibilities include:
Program resource for safety issues.
Plan, supervise and monitor compliance with all Corporate and Program-specific plans and Federal, state, and local safety regulations.
Conduct hazard evaluations of jobs and processes and perform routine inspections of facilities and operations for unsafe conditions and work practices, and make recommendations to reduce / eliminate incident (re)occurrence.
Prepare and update project safety plans including health and safety plans, emergency response plans, respiratory protection plans, fall protection plans, air monitoring plans, confined space entry plans, and activity hazard analysis.
Conducts employee health and safety training including proper use of PPE, HAZCOM, blood borne pathogens, fire protection and prevention, potential hazards and required control measures, work practices associated with site conditions and operations, standard health and safety procedures, decontamination procedures, and emergency/contingency procedures.
Provides site emergency planning and contingency plan administration, program maintenance and surveillance, conducts site specific training and coordinates emergency response activities.
Conduct incident investigations and reporting.
Evaluate monitoring data including air, heat/cold stress, and noise to make field decisions regarding safety and health.
Review subcontractor safety qualifications and training documentation.
Experience
The desired candidate shall have 5 years’ experience in operating and managing waste handling, disposal, and destruction facilities. Specific experience as a plant manager and operator of a PEM gasification facility is highly desirable. The candidate shall have experience developing and implementing work plans, safety management plans, and environmental control plans. Troubleshooting and corrective action experience is also required. The candidate shall have experience managing multiple personnel in a waste-handling environment. The candidate shall be well-versed in the installation, operation, and maintenance of electrical, mechanical, process control, and PEM gasification systems.
Minimum Requirements
A minimum of one year of working experience at hazardous waste sites where EPA personal protective equipment is required. The applicant shall specifically list the locations and durations of this experience in their response.
Specialized training in personal and respiratory protective equipment, program implementation, and in the proper use of air monitoring instruments, air sampling methods, and interpretation of results.
Certified as having completed training in First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) by a recognized organization such as the American Red Cross. The applicant must respond in the affirmative to the requirement.
Working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local occupational health and safety regulations.
Preferred Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in safety, health or industrial hygiene, environmental science, environmental engineering or demonstrated equivalent with minimum of 3 years of safety experience; OR an associate’s degree in safety, health or industrial hygiene, environmental science, environmental engineering or demonstrated equivalent with minimum of 5 years of safety experience; OR 7 years of safety experience.
Experience with implementation of USACE EM 385-1-1 safety regulations
40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training.
8-hour OSHA HAZWOPER Supervisor’s training.
Must have or be willing to obtain 30-hour OSHA safety certification.
Must have or be willing to obtain Safety Trained Supervisor certification offered by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals.
Proficiency with MS Office and other safety software tools.
Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
