Job Summary:

The Department of Radiology, University of Wisconsin Madison, School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Medical Assistant to join our dynamic healthcare team. This vital role supports healthcare providers in delivering exceptional patient care by assisting with clinical tasks and providing administrative support in our WIMR Imaging Department. Responsibilities:

Collects vital signs, patient history, and specimens; and performs basic laboratory tests and administers injections and medications under supervising clinician direction to ensure the proper care of patients. Prepares examination rooms and equipment and performs administrative duties. Works collaboratively with other medical staff.
  • 5% Performs routine vital signs, basic tests, assists with minor procedures, and administers medications as directed by a supervising clinician
  • 5% Collects, prepares, and delivers specimens for laboratory analysis
  • 20% Prepares and cleans examination rooms, instruments, and equipment for specific procedures
  • 20% Escorts patients to various hospital locations and delivers, orders, and inventories general clinic supplies
  • 30% Performs administrative duties such as scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, assisting patients with billing, and coding information and answering basic medical questions
  • 20% Patient communication: Educate patients about scheduled procedures, and follow-up instructions. Screen patients for potential safety concerns. Provide excellent customer service and maintain compassionate professional patient care.

Qualifications:

Required
- BLS CPR certification.
Preferred
- Experience working within a healthcare setting.

The ideal candidate will possess the following: a basic knowledge of medical terminology, strong communication skills, ability to work collaboratively with patients and healthcare teams, ability to multitask in a healthcare environment, and basic computer skills.

Work Schedule:

Anticipated hours will be 8:00am-4:30pm or 7:30am-4:00pm, depending on staffing needs. Shifts may be modified as agreed upon by employee and supervisor.

Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 80% - 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Minimum $22.00 HOURLY

The starting salary for the position is $22.00 per hour, but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Additional Information:

The department will not be able to support a request for a J-1 waiver. If you choose to pursue a waiver and apply for our position, neither the UW nor UWMF will reimburse you for your legal or waiver fees.
