Job Description

R&D Lab Technician

Kelly Science has immediate needs for a R&D Lab Technician in Sarasota FL with one of our growing clients focusing on animal health products. This is a temp to hire role with great opportunity for advancement.

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm, some weekend coverage as needed(1-2hours a month) earlier start time is fine as well

Hourly Pay Rate: $24

Position Details

This role will be responsible for performing the general lab maintenance, cleaning, instrument calibration and metrology, and testing in the laboratory while ensuring compliance to departmental policies and procedures applicable to the lab. The technician will also be assisting in pilot scale fermentation process including cleaning, weighing raw materials, operation and routine maintenance of the pilot tank fermenters and centrifuges, preparing solutions and final formulations. The Technician will facilitate timely completion of lab and pilot fermentation projects and testing by effectively managing resources, providing feedback, and communication with the other lab members. Microbial physiology and Molecular biology background would help.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare media

  • Set up, operate, clean and maintain equipment at the bench

  • Collect and record experiment samples, perform sample assays, and maintain supply stocks

  • Accurately and precisely prepare and analyze samples

  • Equipment and glassware cleaning, assembly and sterilization of laboratory equipment

  • Medium preparation, filtration and/or in situ sterilization

  • Equipment maintenance and troubleshooting

  • Execution of experiment and sampling protocols; provide feedback and improve experiment and sampling protocols while using

  • Stock lab supplies and order as necessary to ensure adequate supplies.

  • Write, improve, and maintain Standard Operation Procedures.

  • Document experimental runs by maintaining accurate and thorough lab notebook and/or electronic documentation

  • Operation, care and routine maintenance of production scale fermentation and culture processing equipment.

  • Cleaning and sanitization of valves, equipment and fermentation tanks

  • Log in and record data.

  • Maintaining a clean and safe work environment including general cleaning duties for plant and employee safety

  • Adhere to standard operating procedures and GMP practices

  • Write technical reports to communicate results within team and across departments.

EDUCATION

  • B.S. in microbiology, food science, , biology, chemistry or a related field is preferred, will accept experience over a degree.

  • Mathematical Skills: The person should be able to work simple mathematical problems and to work with fractions, decimals, and Standard and Metric systems.

  • Microbiology, Analytical Chemistry, and Molecular Chemistry background desired
