  • Salary Range: $110,000 - $160,000

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Adult Palliative Care Service at Columbia University Irving Medical Center/New York-Presbyterian Hospital is actively seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) to enhance our interdisciplinary palliative care program. The selected candidate will report to the lead nurse practitioner and medical director, demonstrating expertise in either hospice or palliative care, along with eligibility for ACHPN certification within one year.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct and indirect patient care for palliative care outpatients, ensuring comprehensive assessments and aggressive symptom management.
  • Provide inpatient palliative care consultations in critical care, oncology, neurology, cardiology, and general medical and surgical units.
  • Conduct goals of care discussions with patients and families to align treatment choices with their wishes.
  • Offer patient-centered and family-focused care in the outpatient clinic and via telehealth, performing comprehensive histories, physical exams, result evaluations, counseling, and support.
  • Collaborate with referring providers to coordinate the plan of care for outpatient palliative care, providing telephone support to patients and families between clinic visits.
  • Provide consultative services for medicine and surgical patients in both ICU and non-ICU settings, working with an interdisciplinary palliative care team.
  • Deliver evidence-based comprehensive pain and symptom management, assist with clarifying goals of care, and offer support to patients, families, and caregivers.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills in a busy academic hospital and faculty practice setting.
  • Display competency in specialist-level pain and symptom management.
  • Adapt to patient needs with a flexible schedule in response to a frequently changing work environment.
  • Actively participate in daily rounds, palliative care fellow's and grand rounds, and contribute to the development of educational and quality improvement projects for nurses and other staff.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus one to two years of palliative and/or hospice experience
  • Current New York State NP and RN license
  • Active DEA certification
  • Nurse Practitioner Board Certification - HPNA certification (or eligibility) within 1 year of hire
  • AHA BCLS certification

  • Participation in the medical surveillance program

    • Wear N-95 respirator
    • Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure
