The Arizona State Veterans' Home in Phoenix seeks a meticulous and dedicated Medical Payments Recovery Specialist to join our finance team. As a Medical Payments Recovery Specialist, you will be integral to the billing and collections process, ensuring the timely and accurate reimbursement of resident fees from various payers, including private pay, insurance companies, VA per diem, Medicaid, and Medicare. This role involves detailed work with billing systems, claims tracking, and customer service to maintain our financial health and support our veteran-centered care mission.
Your Impact:
- Billing and Collections: Manage initial billings, follow-ups, and appeals to ensure that all resident fees are accurately billed and collected from various payers.
- Financial Management: Handle daily inputs in the accounts receivable system, including ancillaries/charges, payments, adjustments, and resident file maintenance.
- Insurance Verification and Reporting: Verify insurance coverage, prepare billing reports, and maintain logs required for Medicare annual cost reports.
- Trust Fund Oversight: Oversee the Resident Trust Fund, including processing deposits and withdrawals and assist residents and their families with fund transactions.
- Customer Interaction: Handle inquiries regarding trust and statement balances, prepare monthly statements for private pay accounts, and engage in collection efforts.

Job Duties:
As a Medical Payments Recovery Specialist you will:
- Submit initial billings to payer sources and follows up, as needed
- Prepare a variety of correspondence and supporting documentation for appeals
- Consistently tracks claims on an ongoing basis; researches denials and resubmits, as needed
- Input ancillaries/charges, payments, adjustments, daily census and resident file maintenance in a computerized accounts receivable system
- Correct electronic and paper billing errors in a timely manner; remains current with coding and billing updates
- Verify insurance coverage
- Prepare billing reports and maintains billing logs, as required by Medicare for annual cost reports
- Oversee Resident Trust Fund to include processing daily deposits to and withdrawals from Resident Trust Fund; assists residents and/or family members/responsible parties who wish to deposit funds to resident’s account
- Prepare monthly statements for all private pay accounts and is responsible for collection efforts
- Conduct phone and in-person inquiries regarding trust and statement balances
- Prepare a variety of correspondence such as collection letters, 30-day notices
- Participate in posting end of month ancillaries
- Actively involved in AMS processes such as Huddle Boards, Problem Solving, Job Breakdown sheets, Success Tracking and Standardized Work

Pre-Employment Requirements:
- Current Negative TB skin test (Mantoux skin test) within the last twelve months or a written statement from a physician, physician’s assistant or a registered nurse practitioner indicating freedom from Tuberculosis, if in the past has had a positive skin test or Tuberculosis
- Must be able to obtain and retain a fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety This position requires the ability to drive on State business. Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on State business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see A.AC. R2-10-207.11).
