Role Overview

The mission of the Hoosier Youth Challenge Academy (HYCA) is to intervene in and reclaim the lives of at-risk youth to produce program graduates with the values, skills, education, and self-discipline necessary to succeed as adults. You will serve as the primary Laundry Assistant in the laundry area of the Hoosier Youth Challenge Academy cleaning, preparation and drying of Cadets Clothing and linen. 

 

Salary Statement

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $26,312.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

 

About the Job:

As the Laundry Assistant, you will be responsible for serving in the laundry area of a state facility to assist in cleaning and drying of clothing and linen. 

A Day in the Life:

The essential elements of the job duties: 

  • Operate flatwork iron, steam tunnel, shirt presses, pants presser, dry press, steam press, towel and sheet folder and marking machine.
  • Sort and shake out laundry according to further processing needs. 
  • Fold and load all clothing and linens for distribution. 
  • Perform general clean up and simple maintenance of equipment. 
  • Stamp new clothing and linens with facility identification 
  • Mend clothing and linens.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment: 

  • Two (2) years of full-time experience in laundry services or related area.
  • Knowledge of, and the ability to operate a variety of laundry equipment.
  • Ability to perform simple maintenance on all equipment located in laundry area.
  • Ability to shake out, rack, press and fold clothing and linens. 
  • Ability to sew and operate sewing machine.
