Position status and work arrangement: Non-Exempt, Full-time in San Diego, CA, on-site daily for a two-month training period. Afterward, on-site at least three days per week. 

Compensation: $68,000 - $85,000 annually, depending on relevant professional experience.

Target start date: September 2024

Job Summary:

The Junior Systems Administrator will work under the supervision of the IT department and will use their IT experience to provide front-line end-user support and resolve technical issues to meet the needs of our in-house and remote teams. The Junior Systems Administrator will help to identify the root cause of technical problems and work to resolve issues promptly. The Junior Systems Administrator will operate, maintain, and troubleshoot internal systems and assist in server administration. The ideal candidate has excellent communication skills and promotes a culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing across departments. This individual must be patient and confident in their ability to diagnose and simplify technical explanations to users.

Duties:
  • Provide front-line technical support to employees.
  • Monitor incoming support requests and respond promptly.
  • Provision and track user workstations, printers, and related equipment.
  • Manage IT inventory and conduct routine audits.
  • Maintain and order IT supplies as needed.
  • Issue employee ID cards and security tokens.
  • Create, update, and maintain new and existing procedure documentation.
  • Create and update/improve existing IT scripts for various processes.
  • Responsible for installing, configuring, administering, and maintaining workstations, servers, and network systems, including associated hardware.
  • Help manage critical server systems.
  • Propose and implement process improvements.
  • Employ tools such as Terraform and Ansible to automate/control provisioning.
  • Ability to work independently and motivated to seek opportunities for process improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications / Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Attributes:

  • U.S. Citizenship to obtain Security Clearance.
  • 0-2 Years Experience of Help Desk / IT Support
  • 1+ Years of Professional Experience with Linux or Unix
  • 1+ Years of Professional Experience  with Bash Scripting and Command Line
  • 1+ Years of Professional Experience with Windows 10 or later
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs. as physical labor is required.
  • Must have consistent and reliable transportation to and from work.

Preferences:

  • Bachelor's degree in Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent work experience).
  • Security+/Linux+ Certification is a plus
  • Experience with Programming: C/C++, Python, or similar
  • Experience with Specific OSes: Ubuntu, CentOS/RedHat
  • Experience with Web Proxies: HAProxy, Nginx
  • Experience with Web/Application Servers: Apache, Tomcat
  • Experience with Crypto key management: PKI tokens, SSH keys
  • Experience with Configuration Automation: Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins, Packer
  • Experience with Container/Virtualization: VirtualBox, VMWare, Podman, Azure, AWS
  • Active Secret Security Clearance is a plus
