Under the direct supervision of the Access Manager, the Hospital Assistant III pre-registers, pre-admits, and admits patients by telephone. Assists with the efficient collection of accurate demographic information, reviews insurance benefits, obtains prior authorizations, patient estimates, cash collections, interacts with physicians/office personnel as well as other hospital personnel, and assist patients with discharge/post-hospital care. Interact with hospital departments including but not limited to Utilization Review and Patient Business Services to ensure correct and timely reimbursement. Provides support to higher level Patient Access Reps and other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum three (3) years previous admissions/registration experience in a large, complex healthcare setting.

  • Thorough knowledge of insurance verification, registration, and medical terminology.

  • Proficient with MS Office: Outlook, Word, and Excel. Computer skills/ability to work between multiple systems accurately and efficiently.

  • Strong problem solving skills. Ability by using good judgment by applying these skills to assist customers and ensure expectations are met. Solid organizational skills with independent ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and manage conflicting demands with limited supervision.

  • Ability to interact effectively with the public, patients, visitors, clinical and support staff. Ability to work in an interactive and collaborative environment. Excellent customer service skills. Self-starter who is accountable and requires minimal direction and supervision.

  • Excellent communication skills with ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing and be able to articulate complex ideas for all levels of audiences.

  • Possess the personal characteristics of professionalism, credibility, commitment to high standards, innovation, discriminating judgment and accountability.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with insurance and authorization verification.

  • Strong knowledge of third party payors including federal, state, and private health plans.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

  • Knowledge and articulation of hospital patient forms, as required by JACAHO/GAD, etc.

  • Prior cash handling experience.

  • Experience completing Birth certificates.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $54,664 - $67,944 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $26.18 - $32.54

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
