Job Description: Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist

A HIM Specialist is responsible for sorting, scanning and indexing medical records and performs quality assurance auditing within established guidelines. Performs other duties as assigned. This position reports to the Supervisor of Informatics.

Responsibilities

  • Performs scanning functions on documents while maintaining integrity of batch assembly and monitoring images for completeness and legibility.
  • Assists in coordination of document transportation between HIM department and clinics.
  • Ensures receipt of all patient records.
  • Performs verification and indexing of images for quality completeness and batch identification.
  • Maintains and verifies scanned image quality checks and scanning processes.
  • Communicates with staff / providers relating to HIM department inquiries
  • Demonstrates professionalism and excellent communication in the workplace.
  • Maintains work area in neat and orderly manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Key Qualifications & Characteristics

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated competence in data entry and ability to work with computer applications
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with confidential information
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills
  • One year of experience working in a medical environment including an understanding of medical terminology.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well independently and with co-workers in a team
