Job Description and Duties

The successful candidate will be thoroughly enmeshed in the evaluation of environmental resources in the beautiful Eastern Sierras. Multiple positions are available for

• Biologists,

• Archaeologists and other Cultural Resources specialists, and

• NEPA and CEQA practitioners

to work on a variety of projects involving the state highway and other infrastructure.

Under the general direction of a Planning or Environmental Branch Chief, the incumbent is an interdisciplinary team member who will be responsible for preparing and reviewing complex environmental documents, technical studies, and analytical reports to ensure compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Climate change adaptation and numerous state and federal environmental resource laws and regulations. Working Conditions

Position located in Bishop, Inyo County. 
While at your base of operation, you will work in a climate-controlled office under artificial lighting in a office. Frequent travel and field work are required within the Region. Some fieldwork requires the ability to work in a variety of climatic and geographical conditions. You may be required to travel to offices and field locations, as well as occasional travel outside of the Region.

New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

The Environmental Scientist series requires either possession of a bachelor’s or advanced degree with a science major (see CalHR Class Specs for a list of degrees) or admission into a masters or doctoral degree program with a science major. Minimum Qualifications will be considered to have been met upon admission to a masters or doctoral program and are not contingent upon enrollment in or completion of the program at any time.
