Role Overview:
We are seeking a South America Researcher to assist in gathering data on political violence and protests specifically in Ecuador. This is a remote position, requiring a commitment of at least 25 hours per week, with deliverables submitted weekly on Saturdays or Sundays. This entry-level contractor role allows for flexibility, as you can work from anywhere with reliable internet access.
Key Responsibilities:
Collect data by reviewing news articles, reports from international organizations, NGOs, and security agencies related to political violence in Ecuador.
Record incidents of political violence in an Excel template, focusing on a comprehensive analysis of events ranging from protests to armed conflicts.
Manage and review data to ensure its quality, consistency, and reliability.
Participate in detailed tasks that enhance your experience in quantitative data production.
Training and Duration:
Selected candidates will undergo comprehensive training to ensure readiness for this role. The training includes various exercises, and only those meeting the performance standards will continue as Researchers. The initial consultancy period will run from November 2024 to June 2025, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability.

Qualifications and Skills:
We are looking for applicants who possess the following qualifications:
A university degree in international relations, political science, conflict studies, history, or a related field.
Proficiency in Excel is essential.
Fluency in English and Spanish is required; fluency in Portuguese is a plus.
Experience in desk-based research is advantageous.
Familiarity with conflict research in Ecuador and South America, including knowledge of political dynamics and organized crime, is a strong asset.
Ability to meet deadlines with minimal supervision and a keen attention to detail.
A computer, reliable internet connection, email access, and a recent version of Microsoft Office Suite are necessary.
