Certified Phlebotomy Technician 3 Job Summary The Lead Phlebotomist provides oversight assistance to the outpatient clinical phlebotomy staff. Lead Phlebotomists adhere to all departmental and governing organizations polices and guidelines and ensure effective and efficient operations of the section's pre-analytical performance. This position also oversees staff training and competency, investigates problems and recommends solutions that provide efficient specimen handling.

- Possess current California State issued Certified Phlebotomy Technician I license.
- Must have current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain within 3 months from hire date.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience/training.
- Must be able to perform and maintain competency in all areas of the pre-analytical lab to include: outpatient phlebotomy, inpatient phlebotomy, data entry, inpatient and emergency department pneumatic tube stations, processing, batching, receiving and line operation.
- Manual dexterity for pipetting and/or aliquotting specimens and operating pneumatic tube system.
- Possess knowledge of laboratory pre-analytical processes, policies and procedures.
- Possess effective written and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of safety policies and procedures, occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Knowledge of hospital and Laboratory Information System (LIS), EMR, hospital Incident Report System (RL Solutions), email, Internet, Microsoft Office and data management software.
- Possess excellent interpersonal and team management skills to effectively collaborate with supervisors, physicians, technologists, nursing and other staff.
- Possess excellent problem solving skills and utilizes resources effectively for resolution.
- Ability to show fairness and respect, and follow the Principles of Community.
- Ability to work productively in a busy and complex environment, meet deadlines and to remain flexible within a variety of changing demands.
- Ability to manage several projects or tasks simultaneously and to exercise appropriate judgment when setting priorities.

Department Overview The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is a large, diverse multi-site department whose mission is to create a healthier world through bold innovation in public health, education, technology and research. The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine's mission is to provide high quality patient/physician services, to maintain the excellence of the educational programs, and to perform scholarly research and development when appropriate. Work Environment UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
